Art museums bore me. Or so I thought.
I've been hearing about the Joslyn's comeback a lot recently. But it wasn't after my roommate recounted her tales of the wonderful art, especially The Pearl of Venice, that I decided I was going. (That piece is quite literally a dreamscape displayed on a canvas, and I'd stare at it for hours if given the opportunity) I made plans with my sister and on Sunday, after a quick sushi lunch, we headed down to the Joslyn.
The first thing that I noticed was the architecture. The new addition, the Hawks Pavilion, with its curves and smooth edges add a modern flare that complements the more regal, art deco style Joslyn building nicely. The Schrager Atrium, when you walk in, is filled with natural light beaming from all directions from the tall windows which also allow you a view straight into the new sculpture garden. The architectural choices feel very intentional in their design and further cements the Joslyn as a landmark of the Omaha cityscape.

Now why do I say art museums bore me? Without getting too deep into it, It simply took me a long time to develop the mindset necessary to appreciate and attain something from the art I would look at. So I was bored and didn't care to spend time doing so. However, in the last couple of years, after picking up photography and some maturity, I started the get the point of spending time looking at art. With photography becoming a bigger part of my life, and as I constantly seek to improve and create my next favorite photo, I try to absorb inspiration everywhere I can. Other mediums of art are becoming great sources of inspiration so now when I consume art, I am looking at it through a different lens. Painters are masters at composition, and I want to be able to see things as they did. So naturally, Museums, like the Joslyn are becoming more fun for me and I welcome this change to my personality with open arms.

On our way out, I came across this scene of the empty courtyard with the all empty chair. The whole area had a liminal vibe and so I snapped this shop that I like a lot. The scene is full of contrast and strong geometry and also I just really like the overall vibe of it.
